sandy. so i think this sort of meeting is sort of the top line of people wanting to say it's just organization. but i think below that, there are republicans who know their problems run deeper. >> i don't doubt that, but i think that the bad signal is, for example, how are you going to say you're going to have change re-elect the same chairman in reince priebus, who we learned this week, had clint east wo east's empty chair in his office. to have that as some symbol that you want to recognize other than if you use an example to show how you lost an election, how dumb we could be. i mean, what -- can you re-e lek elect this guy's chair? >> look, we are in a two-party system. but the parties recon fizz your themselves. so, for example, there was ultimately a moment when the party shifted and where those democrats had to find themselves a new party. and we may be looking at a republican party that was similarly in a position where it's going to have to shift between those who are going to follow a reasonable path. there's plenty to disagree about in the land of reasonable. it's fine

on the other side. example, yesterday nia helsin who's the father of a 6-year-old killed in sandy hook testified at a hearing on gun violence. this is the father. lost a 6-year-old kid in the school in newtown. as he was talking, he was actually heckled by a gun activist. listen to this. >> why? anybody in this room needs to have one of these assault style weapons or military weapons or high-capacity clips. and not one person can answer that question. forgive me. >> second amendment shall not be infringed. >> all right. >> please, please, no comments while mr. heslin is speaking. or we'll clear the room. >> i get it we can disagree on the bills. we can disagree on the interpretation of the second amendment, but we are not even 60 days since this man lost his 6-year-old child for going to school with 19 others and we're going to just had heckle and disrespect him. to me it is amazingly insensitive how the pro-gun extremists are on the issue. >> it seems to be a new level of depravity that a man who had gone through that grieving so recently needs to be heckled by second amendment a

swipes. when he came out and said it was republicans blocking sandy aide people, finally, there was a man who said things straight. he has an approach that is very attractive. it may not be attractive to gop primary voters and i think they'll have another chance to have this internal debate, really, a civil war within themselves. are they going to put somebody forward who is popular with the greater population or only popular with the gop base. >> i think there were concerns. i think hillary clinton had an investigation. she took full responsibility of both of those hearings. when you then see the republican congressman said what does responsibility mean to you? why won't you take responsibility? she says i did. >> sisn't that the problem, toure? the primaries, if the far right continues to guide the tone of the primary, a winnable republican can't win the nomination. isn't that the real problem? >> no, that's absolutely right. the far right will continue to guide the gop primary. until we do something like australia where everybody votes then the extremes will guide what the primaries do
